Answer:

Q What should I do if there is an error in AIS or Form 26AS?

A The AIS includes information that is made available to the Income Tax Department, which it receives from the reporting entities. According to the Income Tax Act, certain entities are required to report high-value transactions to the department. However, there may be instances where the data for a specific period is not received or updated. Therefore, it becomes important to carefully review all related information and provide complete and accurate details in their ITR.

Once you spot an error, you can use the feedback mechanism to report any errors in the AIS. The steps for filing feedback are provided below.

Q How can I provide feedback on the information?

A You can provide feedback on the active information presented under TDS/TCS Information, SFT Information, or Other information by following the steps outlined below:

  • Go to the Annual Information Statement (AIS) tab, as mentioned here. You will find various sections such as TDS/TCS information, SFT information and other information.
  • Select the specific information where you want to submit feedback and click on it.
  • Once you expand the information category, you will find an "Optional" button to submit feedback. You will be prompted to choose the type of feedback and provide the feedback details based on the chosen option.
  • Click "Submit" to submit the feedback.

Q What happens after I submit the feedback?

A Once you successfully submit feedback on AIS information, the feedback will be displayed alongside the information. The modified value of the information will also be visible with the reported value. The activity history tab will be updated, and you will have the option to download an Acknowledgement Receipt. Additionally, you will receive email and SMS confirmations for the submission of feedback.

Q Is there a limit to the number of times I can modify a given feedback?

A Currently, there is no limit to the number of times you can modify previously given feedback.
