CIN (Challan Identification Number) is a unique identification number generated by banks when an individual or entity pays tax online.
To find the CIN of the advance tax paid, you need to follow the below steps:
- Log in to your net banking account and go to Regenerate Direct Tax Challans or Reprint Challan (could be available under Tax Center/e-tax Tab).
- Find the transaction details of the advance tax payment made to the Income Tax Department.
- Look for the CIN in the transaction details. It is a 20-digit unique identification number that starts with the BSR code and contains the date of payment, serial number, and the amount paid.
Alternatively, you can also view the CIN details of the advance tax paid through Form 26AS (up to AY 2022-23) and in the AIS (AY 2023-24 onwards) under the Details of Tax Paid (other than TDS or TCS) available on the Income Tax e-filing website.
It is important to note that you can recover the CIN details from your bank within 90 days of the transaction date.
